The Ghisla Art Collection’s new display opens on 10 March 2019, with a public inauguration on Saturday 9 March between 6 and 8 pm.
Among the newly exposed works, there are pieces by some important international artists: Richard Serra, Justin Brice Guariglia, George Condo, Peter Halley and Louise Nevelson from the United States, Alicia Kwade from Poland, Benjamin Sabatier from France as well as Chao Lu and Ni Youyu from China.
In the first two rooms on the ground-floor, nature, climate and climate change create a fil rouge connecting the various artworks and taking the visitor through an introspective journey of reflection. It is a widely discussed subject which deeply concerns our society and future generations, and which art, through its intrinsic capacity of being ahead of its time, is dealing with in most interesting ways. With this section of its current exhibition, the Fondazione Ghisla wants to give an active contribution in raising awareness.
The three rooms on the following floor showcase 34 works by the greatest masters of international modern and contemporary art. In the first room, visitors can admire some of the leading exponents of American Pop Art, such as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, James Rosenquist, Roy Lichtenstein, and Tom Wesselman together with an imposing painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat and an enigmatic canvas by Cy Twombly. The second room contains a selection of genres and currents, including works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Jean Dubuffet, Fernando Botero, Leonor Fini, Serge Poliakoff, Christo & Jeanne Claude, Victor Vasarely, Antoni Tápies: a sort of didactic trail through astounding pieces of art. The third room is an homage to Italian art from the past seven decades: Carlo Ciussi, Agostino Bonalumi, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Francesca Pasquali, Alighiero Boetti, Lucio Fontana and Franco Ionda lead the visitor through the major currents which have left their mark on that period of time.
